Empowering Mentors In Spain In September 2024
From September 12–15, 2024, S4U gathered mentors from Norway, Spain, Greece, and Cyprus in Valencia for an inspiring Believe & Enjoy exchange program. Led by Christine Lindholt-Wittusen of Bare Relasjoner and Roar Waegger, the program focused on self-awareness and transformative coaching.
Christine introduced tools like the Enneagram, helping mentors explore their traits, strengths, and impact on players. Her sessions emphasized different personality types, and the mentors analyzed what types they might me the most off, it's strengths and challenges. Roar's workshops built on holistic development, guiding mentors through purpose-driven coaching, building character, and balancing competition with personal growth.
The program included interactive workshops, collaborative planning, and cultural activities that deepened connections. Exploring Valencia inspired shared experiences and strengthened bonds.
This exchange equipped mentors with actionable strategies, reinforcing S4U's vision of a global community of transformative coaches creating lasting impacts on and off the court.
Transformative Final Coaching Exchange In Norway In August 2024
From August 30 to September 1, 2024, Sport4Understanding, NBBF, and Ulm Basketball Club reunited in Oslo for the final phase of their transformative coaching exchange under the Erasmus+ initiative. This event marked the culmination of a journey that began in Oslo and Ulm, fostering a deeper understanding of leadership, empathy, and reflection among youth development coaches.
Workshops focused on self-reflection, vulnerability in leadership, and crafting a value-based coaching approach. Coaches engaged in discussions about building sustainable basketball communities and strategies to retain young players by prioritizing their development and enjoyment. The sessions emphasized practical tools, such as setting clear expectations and improving communication with players, parents, and club leaders.
Highlights included sightseeing in Oslo, collaborative workshops, and a memorable presentation session with representatives from the Norwegian Basketball Federation's "Transforming Basketball" initiative. Coaches also shared their insights and future plans during a final group evaluation, celebrating the achievements and learnings from the Believe & Enjoy program.
The exchange left participants equipped with renewed inspiration, actionable strategies, and a strong network of like-minded coaches committed to fostering a brighter future for basketball at local, national, and European levels.
Planning The Future Of Mentorship in Cyprus In July 2024
In July 2024, a select group of our mentors from S4U gathered in Nicosia, Cyprus, for a planning trip under the Believe & Enjoy program. This initiative was designed to deepen the holistic philosophy of S4U and empower our young mentors to become the next generation of impactful leaders in sports.
The visit began with a comprehensive introduction to the program's principles, focusing on self-understanding, empathy, and reflective coaching. The mentors explored how to integrate these elements into their work with players and teams, aiming to foster environments that prioritize personal growth and connection.
A guided tour of the divided city of Nicosia provided a profound backdrop for reflection on unity, understanding, and the role of sports in bridging divides. The group also collaborated on plans for the upcoming mentor exchange trip to Valencia in September 2024, setting the stage for a program that will further reinforce S4U's mission of building a global community of empathetic and reflective coaches.
This planning trip served as a catalyst for growth, equipping mentors with tools and inspiration to create lasting impact both within S4U and in their local communities.
Memorable Youth Exchange In Norway In March 2024
In March 2024, under Sport4Understanding and Erasmus+, 40-45 participants from Norway and Greece came together in Bergen for an exciting youth exchange, representing Frøya Basket and Promitheas Patras B.C. Although Godella Basketball from Spain couldn't join due to travel disruptions, the energy and enthusiasm of those present made the exchange unforgettable.
Workshops covered diverse topics, including reflections on Greece 2023, teamwork challenges, and a "small talk" session to boost confidence. Basketball training sessions with Norwegian and Greek coaches, exciting games against local teams, and a fun 3x3 tournament added to the experience.
Exploring Bergen was a highlight, with a ride on the famous Fløibanen and city challenges that brought plenty of laughter. The visit was made even more special by a local rapper's performance, which resonated with participants and showcased Norway's cultural side.
This exchange went beyond basketball, fostering connections, cultural understanding, and lasting memories, proving once again that sports can bridge any gap.
Transformative Coaching Exchange In Germany In Febrary 2024
From February 15–18, 2024, coaches from Norway and Germany gathered in Ulm under the Erasmus+ initiative for a dynamic training exchange led by Sport4Understanding, NBBF, and Ulm Basketball Club. This event built on the success of previous exchanges, focusing on empowering youth development coaches through reflection, empathy, and collaboration.
Workshops delved into topics such as empathetic communication, vulnerability in leadership, and strategies to foster inclusive team cultures. Interactive sessions emphasized role-reversal exercises and self-reflection, enabling participants to deepen their understanding of the impact of their coaching on young players. Coaches explored innovative approaches to creating supportive environments while addressing challenges in coaching dynamics.
Highlights included engaging activities at the Orange Campus, a cultural sightseeing tour of Ulm, and an inspiring evening watching a local basketball game. The exchange strengthened ties between Norwegian and German basketball communities, equipping participants with new tools and perspectives to enrich their coaching practices and leave a lasting legacy for their teams.
